The Russian volume technique is a method of applying multiple ultra-thin lash extensions to each natural lash. Also known as ‘volume lashes,’ it gives a more dramatic, fuller look without placing excessive strain on natural lashes.
Where classic lash application attaches one extension to each natural lash, Russian volume uses ultra-fine extensions to create fans of multiple lashes applied to individual natural lashes.

Benefits of Russian Volume Lashes
Added Volume and Fullness
Russian volume provides significantly more fullness than classic application. Ideal for clients with sparse natural lashes who want dramatic results.
Lightweight Comfort
Despite multiple extensions per lash, volume lashes are lightweight due to ultra-fine fibres (0.03mm to 0.07mm diameter versus 0.15mm-0.20mm for classic).
Highly Customizable Results
Technicians can adjust fans from 2D (subtle) to 8D or more (full glamour), allowing customization for any desired look.
Often Longer Lasting
Volume lashes frequently last longer due to improved adhesion when multiple extensions share weight on a single natural lash.
Step-by-Step Application Process
Preparation
Cleanse natural lashes thoroughly with a lash-safe cleanser. Use eye pads to separate lower lashes. Ensure client comfort for the appointment duration.
Creating the Fans
Use tweezers to pick up 2-6 extensions. Spread into a fan shape by manipulating the base using pinching, rolling, or shimmy methods. The fan should be symmetrical with evenly spaced extensions. The base should be thin and tight, tips spread evenly.
Application
Dip the fan base into adhesive (1-2mm only). Isolate a single natural lash. Attach the fan 0.5-1mm from the lash line—never touching the eyelid. Hold for initial bonding before moving to the next lash.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
Uneven Fan Creation: Failing to spread extensions symmetrically results in unprofessional outcomes.
Excessive Adhesive: Creates clumps and discomfort. Refresh adhesive frequently.
Poor Isolation: Results in stickies that cause discomfort and premature shedding.
Incorrect Weight Selection: Extensions too heavy cause breakage and damage.
Aftercare Instructions for Clients
Keep lashes dry for 24-48 hours. Use oil-free cleanser twice weekly. Brush with a soft spoolie daily. Avoid oil-based products. Sleep on back or use silk pillowcase. Never attempt at-home removal.
Classic vs Russian Volume: Which Is Right?
Choose Classic If: Client wants natural look, has full healthy lashes, or is new to extensions.
Choose Russian Volume If: Client wants dramatic fullness, has sparse or fine lashes, or wants customizable fullness.
